Is an online petition even necessary? It'd be naive to think that the two launch colours are going to be the only two colours Nintendo release the 3DS in.

More colours will come, new ones constantly being released over the console's lifespan. Don't want this colour? Wait for the one you do. Or wait for some 3rd party company to release custom shells, like you can get for the DS Lite.
