Hacking Safe to do a Data Transfer?

I was wondering if its safe to run a Data Transfer from a soft modded Wii to a new Wii U.
I have some save files and virtual consoles etc i want on Wii U, but i would not want to endanger the Wii U and then get refused for a fix due to "homebrew" Can i make a transfer? or should i just leave things as they are.
