Why are people saying this is a "scam"? Scam's imply that you get cheated out of something without your knowledge. You know what you're getting into here. It's not like you start paying your monthly fee and magically they go "WE NEED $200 MONTHLY OOOOOH!" This isn't a "scam", you know what's ahead of you.

And it's reasonable. Say for example I'm not exactly rolling in the dough and my kid wants a Xbox 360 and Kinect for Christmas. I make a monthly paycheck but it'd take a long time to save up my scraps of cash to get him a Xbox 360 + Kinect, but I can pay a little bit a month. So I get this deal, get him the Xbox 360 now, and pay for it later, over time. People take out loans that they pay off over time or lock themselves into cell phone plans that do the same thing (I thought like AT&T/Verizon let you buy a new iPhone for $100 and then you pay for a two year plan for your phone).

You might be right, although the 720 is most likely seeing a holiday 2013 release, so if people get this soon, they won't be tied up too long after the 720 release.

I have to say with a $15 subscription a month for two years this thing should be free initially.
A 360 is 175€ if you buy it regularly. If a phone is that much and you purchase it with a 2 year 15€ contract it will be free. Everything else would be a ripoff.

They need to make their money back.
For a phone you spend like $50+ on a monthly plan and they make the money back easily. With this they aren't forcing a overpriced monthly fee on it. I do hate this though.

Wow sometimes I really don't want to be in the US. No I don't spend $50+ on a monthly plan. For a basic plan you spend 5 Euro, for a plan with a data-flat and a few free minutes you spend about 20 Euro a month and you still get the phone for free. If you get an all around flat (phone everywhere in the country, into every net and surf as much as you want) it will cost you about 45 Euro, but that's the high end nobody really gets.
Sorry to say but you are getting ripped off there.

Ya, I know it is a ripoff compared to some other countries. I suppose it is cheaper for you since they have less land to cover and better companies since well most of the customer service for cellphones here blow, they have poor coverage or they just suck overall.
You can always get a prepaid basic phone in the US with tracphone or other companies but that is only if you use 800-1000 minutes a year for 100 and no data except with AT&T. Smartphones, data and high minute usage make plans skyrocket in price.

Well you don't have to deal with that stuff and honestly it is 35-50 for basic and 35-100+ for smart phones unless you go with some prepaid.
