As for rom-trimming application I'd gladly recommend NDSTokyoTrim as it's the best rom-trimmer I've encountered so far.

Absolutely correct.ShaneC said:Forgive the new guy for asking this; but am I correct in understanding that Rom trimming is similar to compressing?
ie. 64meg file, run through a trimmer - removes "garbage bits"; final output is a near duplicate of the original (sans garbage), and thus a smaller file?

There's a feature that'll let you set a different background so it doesn't have to be of those stupid anime girls! Just download something off the internet, re-size it, and set it as the background. Anyways every game I trimmed has worked perfectly thus far, so I'm happy. Also, is it safe to trim patched ROMs (like Bloody Diamond?) I trimmed it and it's worked up to the intro screen but I haven't tested any more of the game. Since it's just a modified Diamond I'd think it would work, right?Hehe Moo said:Lol, I'm a bit worried my dad might get the wrong idea if I'm trimming a ROM...

Well, it's not quite the same method as compression, but it has the same end result. Compression basically removes redundant parts of a file. When it sees a bunch of the same thing in a file (or files) it simply lists where those parts occur, and how much. Kind of like "blah blah blah poop poop" would just be "blah x3 poop x2". But, y'know, a little more complicated than that.
Commercial roms, on the other hand, have to placed on a commercial cartridge, and those are of specific sizes. 256mbit, 512mbit, etc. But the game they make may not always be that large. So, they place it on the next largest size (say, a 200mbit game is placed on a 256mbit cart). When the game is dumped, all that extra blank space comes with it. When you use a rom trimmer, it just removes all that blank "garbage" space.
