Just wondering, is the gpSP instability a relatively new occurance? Can somebody recommend a revision (either nightly or stable) to downgrade to?

gpsp can, as it turns out, reach 3DS system software levels of stability if you turn off dynarec in core options - you'll get a slowdown, of course, but I haven't gotten a crash yet.

has anyone else been having a lot of oddly flakey crashes/instability with various cores in the most recent 'stable' 1.3.4? i feel like i never had this many issues with the last stable release but so many of these run better i dont really want to go back

(tho vb still runs terribly no matter what....sigh.... lol)

if one of the nightlies since the last stable is more, well, stable..im all ears

The issues with retroarch makes me wish the 3ds community made it's own emulators and didn't rely or be satisfied with just using retroarch ports.
The whole point of ports is not to re-do a lot of hard code. Plus, the code is already portable so the work they have to put into is minimal. For instance, do you think it would be feasible to make an entire PS1 emulator from scratch for the 3DS?

These ports have another great advantage. When a project like blargSnes is closed (seems to at least I havent found the source) as soon as the creator stops pushing versions you are not going to get improvements, but even after all interest is lost on the 3DS, you could potentially merge changes from the trunks of libreretro, because being portable means that whatever (big part, really, not all) they program for a regular computer is going to work on the 3DS cores.

Also, when these came out we went from having blargSnes and mGBA to a load of systems.

I think these are a blessing really.

Here's your blargsnes GitHub where it is not closed source at all. Make sure you are on the VeryHard branch as that is the only one that has been worked on lately by @DiscostewSM

it's not like we leave them broken on purpose you know? debugging a dynarec is not trivial and we do have lives outside RetroArch

What are you talking about? I never said anything about having a life revolved around retroarch.

Yes but you implied that our ports are low quality with that statement.
We didn't make the emulators but a ton of fixing was done by the libretro team on all of them.

Several of the emulators that we have were just abandoned by the original devs to rot, completely unmantained.

Anyway maybe I just misunderstood, if so, sorry and move along.

I apologize if my comment came off as bashing retroarch, i know it's not low quality.

Lately it seems like RetroArch is the the only thing being done on the 3DS Scene Emulation Section. Would love to see about some other types of Cores or Emus made, but doubt anything will happen with the Emulation I am hoping for.

Well I have a core in the works that would allow to use any retroarch device to work as a gamepad for any other retroarch device, does that count? :p
A gimmick

Actually, I was wondering if would be possible to Port or add Roms to either the MAME or FBA Cores from the HBMAME Emulator? There are quite a few Rom Hacks/Homebrews that look good. Either for the 3DS Port or the Android Port since it can handle the big Roms.

We could have an HBMAME core it should be a surface patch but I don't think there is anyone motivated/invested enough to work on MAME.
If you can patch it and build it, it should work.

I spent a lot of time in 2015 fixing MAME libretro and it's really hard to stomach 20 minute build delays so I'm not volunteering.
