Trying to make a theme for the first time here.

If I try to convert a wav file into the music for my theme, the converter that pops up just doesn't show any music at all. I tried with a smaller file, still nothing.

I've looked at the guide, it should say samples and actually play the song, but if I press play there's absolutely nothing playing at all.

Any help?
Nevermind, had to encode to 16bit Wav instead of 32.

Although I literally have no clue how to install this. I exported the body_LZ.bin. I put extdatatools (which I suppose is what I use to install themes) in my 3ds folder and then put the theme in the folder. Started the Homebrew Launcher, launched the app itself, enabled persistent theme-cache, and then copied from SD to extdata.

Only problem is if I turn the 3DS off to go back to my menu, the theme I had selected is not active anymore. Is there another way to get out of the Homebrew Launcher without turning off the 3DS? Home button doesn't work.

I mean from what I get it should change my active theme to the one I made, but my 3ds just doesn't seem to ever keep the themes I install active, not even the actual ones that can be downloaded.

Last edited by guruFTW,
I seem to be having a problem with the newer YATA+ versions.

In the original, I could just open it up and the program appears normally, in 1.1 a welcome screen with no exit appears and I had to modify the settings into " first_start=false ". No problems there.

But when I try this with either 1.2 or 1.3.1 the welcome screen does not go away. Even though it's in the false state. This one:

It just stays there and nothing else happens, even after 15 minutes. I have to exit out by using the task manager and force it to close.

I'm using Windows 7 Home premium with a 64 bit operating system if that has any relevance.

Selez, this is related to your computer's DPI scaling. It's set to 125%, instead of 100%. There's a button that's supposed to appear in the bottom right corner of that window, but because of the scaling, it doesn't appear. To fix it for now, go into Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display

You should be able to change your DPI scaling back afterwards, but check the Theme Settings window first, just in case it suffers from similar issues.

Very nice work. I didn't know those two were paired up (I just flicked each one individually to 0 and 255). Did you perform similar tests for #9 (I'm assuming you did since you stated you didn't see any differences either)?
Yeah, I did everything I could with #9, and it just doesn't seem to control anything. I've ripped a couple themes to check how it's being used, and it really just looks like a dummy color value! It's probably safe to ignore it for now.

Although, now that we know that the Arrow Shadow element's position can be controlled to some extent, I can't help but wonder if similar options are available for the other theme elements (exelix11 linked this page). I'm in no hurry to test them though, it's so time-consuming!

These problems are related to the format of the wav, you must convert it to wav, even if it's arleady a wav, with format factory (i use this one) or another file converter

With some trial and error, I found out with settings are ideal for the .wav you want to convert to .bcwav/.cwav:
32728Hz Mono, 16-bit Integer Uncompressed, No Dither

you can get out the homebrew launcher by pressing start when you are in the launcher;
I'd suggest to use CHMM to install themes, it's way easier and you don't have to do things with the cache

There have been a ton of improvements, it's getting easier to use all the time ;) But, is it possible that we can also get previews of some of those extra features too like cursor, 3ds folder, files, ect?

Ok so;
Choose your sound fx and import it in your preferred audio editor (I'm using Adobe Audition CC)
There, export it according to these settings:

32728 Hz, Mono, 16-bit Wave Uncompressed
With some trial and error, I found out that files longer than 3 seconds will freeze your Home Screen whenever that file is played back

Now, open a command prompt to the folder where you have stored ctr_WaveConverter32.exe
You can navigate it with the cmd settings or use an handy registry tweak (attached) that allows you to open a cmd window in your current position as shown in the picture:

Inside the command prompt, write
ctr_WaveConverter32.exe yourfile.wav

A DSP ADPCM .bcwav file will be generated in the folder where ctr_WaveConverter32.exe with the same name as the input wav file.
And that's it, import your .bcwav inside the CWAV chunk in YATA+ and you're good to go.

Also, I attached an example of original .wav and exported .bcwav file

there's no need for registry tweaks. you just have to hold the shift button when right-clicking and the option will appear.

Is there a soft to create themes on OS X? (I've got a Win10 partition but I don't like to use it. (And my picture editing softwares are on OS X))

Otherwise, I give a try while on Win10, great work.

Press the Start button; a prompt will open saying that you're about to reboot to the Home Menu. Then press 'A' to confirm. :)

Additionally, is it possible that you're inadvertently using the 'Shuffle Favorites' option (permanently located just under the 'Theme Shop' button at the top)? Elsewise, I'm not sure what could be causing your non-custom themes to not stick.

Does anyone know why some of my theme SFX's dont play at all?

I dropped all of my WAVs right on the ctr_waveconverter32.exe and imported them all normally, but half of them don't play on my system. It's not a size issue because the bcwav that is 140kb plays but the one that is 8kb doesnt. The ones that don't play just default to the system's regular sounds. I attached my theme's body_LZ.bin.
