Hacking R4i Gold Support

I bought a 3DS Flashcard that supports DS games here, but I am having issues with using cheats. The manual referred to r4isdhc.com for the kernel, which worked for loading games but the cheats don't seem to work. I am trying to get a wild encounter randomization code on Heart Gold to work (I have also tried other codes to no avail). I was wondering if there are some steps I could take to fix this, or if there is a better kernel that the device would be compatible with. Thanks!

Edit: The Rain always on code started working mid-game for no apparent reason. Now I am really confused.

I have that cart, and yeah the cheat system is broken with seemingly no way to fix it. Plus from what I've heard it's a "time bomb" card where it will eventually stop working on purpose, and I have seen this in action over time with the card slowing down and constantly freezing no matter what I do.
If you actually paid $20 for it you paid way to much. I got mine for about $10 from the site's sponsor nds-card.com. Also that's not an r4i gold card, it's an r4isdhc which is a fairly poor clone of the r4i-sdhc. I would say if you actually want a proper card next time do some research and buy from a better source other than Wish. I would get an actual r4i gold card as it has worked flawlessly with both games and cheats
