Hacking R4 Renovation for DS?

That's what happens when you don't buy from a trusted site ShopTemp.

You could be missing files because I have no idea what you downloaded, where you downloaded from, or what this particular clone needs on the microSD root. You need to provide more info if you want someone to help with that.

In the future, just don't buy any product that says any variation of "R4" on it.

The Star Wars icon means your cart is able to bypass the DSi 1.4 firmware update. It is SUPPOSED to display that.

No it isn't. It should display whatever game header was chosen only on DSi with 1.4 firmware.
It should display the normal flashcart header on any other DS.

Not necessarily true for this cart.

Surely they could have chosen the Stars Wars header as their normal header?

The've chosen 'Renovation' as the name of their cart, so may not have the most common sense.

This is an old thread but thought id add my findings as it may help some people.
As we know most if not all R4 cards these days are clones however I have ordered many cards at some really good prices for instance $7 for card and 2gb memory delivered and never had a broken one.
Ok might have taken me a bit longer to get the card working as there are so many kernels out there but you will get there in the end.

Particularly for Barbie's problem i had same issue. The card is probably not broken.
Simply reformat the card fat32 file system apply the kernel again (R4i English v2.10T06 ------?2010-06-24?) and try again, will find that it loads ok.

You know when a card is duff or incompatible when you insert card into DS and console does not recognise it. If it starts to load and you get errors or black screen/white its nearly always a kernel problem. I now by a rule of thumb also reformat card before trying a new kernel.

No doubt people will flame me, saying its rubbish and not to use clone cards blah blah blah..... however maybe if Barbie had tried this first could have saved a few coins before buying another card. Nothing to loose by trying.....

na, no need to flame you so don't go working yourself up just because your worried that we'll flame you.
your right when it comes to solving common? issues like these, but id someone is goning to buy a new flashcart then we'll suggest anything but r4 nowadays.

Yes, this is correct. Sure, there are R4s available now that support WoodR4, but they're actually just 1:1 clones.

Not completely true. A 1:1 clone can still be made out of cheap crappy hardware, and although it's an exact clone of the original, it can be less reliable than the original.

On a related note, it seems that the R4 Renovation website has been closed.

It's back up again. Isn't http://www.r4sdhc.com the same manufacturer as the first (I'll refrain from saying original) black boxed R4 SDHC? It was my understanding that the R4 SDHC 2.10T was an updated model of that one.

Also, DS HappyBox is HORRIBLE... You only get 40-60KB/s download from their server (no, that's not my ISP doing that, I get 300kb/s normally from other sites usually), the search is messed up, and the downloads are all mixed up...

Huh. That DS Happy Box software looks well-built, however I've tried two separate downloads and neither succeeded to connect.

This card has save issues with the main firmware, the 2.10T09
However, it is YSmenu/TTmenu compatable, not WoodR4 or WAIO.
Some sources say this is a DSTT Clone...
