it's loading the games in *.iso and fst (extracted file system) format.

for best results you should use the *.iso format, which is usually the default format for gc games.
if you want to back up your original discs for dios mios, you can use cleanrip.

in order to get games in fst format, you have to convert them with dmltoolbox, available here.
while you can archieve slightly faster loading times for a few games using the fst format,
some games might not work correctly when converted to fst format.

if you see a game in *.gcm format, just rename it from "game.gcm" to "game.iso" and you are good to go.

the root folder should be inside the folder with the game id, along with the main.dol and fst.bin, like this (mario kart double dash is used as an example here):

    • GM4P (game id folder)
      • root folder, main.dol and fst.bin inside game id folder

then you just put the game id folder (in this case GM4P) inside the games folder on the fat32 partition of your hdd, which would look like this:

    • games folder on fat32 partition of your hdd
      • GM4P (game id folder)
        • root folder, main.dol and fst.bin inside game id folder
