Hacking Question regarding repacking roms after editing decrypted files

I've noticed edited repacked roms which include undubs or level mods so these questions are about that process.

Once you have a 3ds rom file & xorpads & go through the process to produce the decrypted files folder which contains, among other things, LZ files, do you then use BatchLZ77 to decompress/compress these files?

If so, after decompressing, editing, and then compressing the files how do you repack the rom file using your edited files so that it then includes the changes you've made?

The end result being a new rom.3ds with modifications which Gateway can load.

Any clarification & information is appreciated.
