Why does GYTB get stuck saying "Attempting to write extdata..."?

When I'm trying to put 900+ Badges on my New 3DS at the end it's hanging at that part for a few minutes.

Is it actually writing the massive amount of Badges I have or is it just stuck not doing anything?

Anyways, for how long does it hang? 900+ is a pretty massive number of badges to process.
