Is it possible to edit them? Like, for example, possible to edit a game like MegaMan 9 to allow gamecube controller support? Sorry if this is a noob question.

I´m not gonna say impossible, but it will be too hard to reverse engeeniering the VC emulator and change it to activate the GC controller, but I think it can be easier to create a homebrew emulator that could be injected into a channel, I just don´t know why no one has done it...!! [IMG]

I think so, there are many weird things you can do with WAD's but I'm not sure it would be easy. Then again I don't know much about Wii Hacking.

I really hope it's not that difficult for someone to do, because as I said above I really want to play MegaMan 9 with the gamecube slot. I was one of the suckers who bought a NES/gamecube adapter specifically to use it with MegaMan 9. I bought it on launch day ready to play and everything, but damn Capcom removed the feature at the very last minute, even though it was confirmed by them. [IMG] Pissed off a lot of people, that did.

Yeah, they were stupid as fuck for MM9's release. All that DLC individually to be purchased, etc, etc. Makes everyone mad.

    Doesn't a Classic Controller work?

Yeah, but as it was supposed to resemble a NES game, I'd really prefer to play it with a NES controller.

It plays sideways on a Wii controller, what more could you ask for? [IMG]

alpha0000's wwpacker allows WADs to be unpacked quite easily. Once unpacked, just use HowardC's u8tool to extract the data file, usually the 00000002.app file. This file contains the game data, sometimes includes a config file that can be edited. Sometimes the data file is 00000005.app, just look at the filesize.. typically it's the largest file. [IMG] Most of the other .app files are useless (for this discussion) and contain the HomeButton files, fonts, title/banner, etc.

The exception being 00000001.app. 00000001.app is the game executable, for extreme hacking it can be loaded into IDA Pro 5.2 (using the DOL and GekkoPS plugins) and disassembled. This is a very tedious and long process, but for those with disassembly and reverse-engineering experience, it will yield the best results for game modifications.

Some WiiWare games are easily editable via a config file and even have debug menu's, a good example is any WiiWare game made by High Voltage Systems. High Voltage Hot Rod Show, Evasive Space, VIP BlackJack Casino, and GyroStarr all have CDGame.txt files (similar to The Conduit) that can be edited using the tools described above, to enable debug menu's to change all kinds of game features, enable cheats, etc.

On the other hand, most WiiWare games are not as friendly to edit and would require a lot of hacking to change things such as controller support. That's not to say it can't be done, just that it's more difficult than games that have an editable config file. [IMG]

I just tried it out, plays just like the old Mega Mans perfect sideways, if the wii controller wasn't so "FAT" I wouldn't have a problem with it. But it's not that bad.

Would anyone who is skilled at this be willing to do it?
