** I have glanced at the stickies and I am still in the process of doing research. I am a noob when it comes to much of the lingo and current programs, so I apologize if my ignorance offends anyone.**

I have just purchased a 32gb Wii U and I am interested in playing copied versions of Wii games. The last time I copied games was when I use to burn Playstation 1 games, so I am out of the loop in terms of copying games now.

I want to avoid downloading wii games/roms from the internet.

Anyway... Here are my questions:

1.) Can I copy wii discs onto my computer; transfer them to an external hard drive; and then play them through the vwii homebrew channel?

2.) Can I copy Wii games directly from my Wii U to an external hard drive?

3.) If "YES" to both #1 & #2, which method would be the easiest? Is there any easier method that I didn't list?

3.) Besides needing to have the Vwii Homebrew Channel, do I need anything else besides a USB Loader?

Thank you for your time.

Method 1 is only possible if you buy certain models of DVD drive. I have one, because it was the only way back in the day, but I no longer use it. Method 2 makes a lot more sense.

You need the homebrew channel, a usb loader, and the missing piece, custom cIOS.

I figured the wii games are only available as torrent files, but still looking into that. For some reason, my ISP must have me on some sort of "watch list" for illegal torrent downloads, but I have only downloaded a total of 2 torrent files my whole life within like a 5 year span. They were stupid PC games that you can't even purchase anymore. I have downloaded songs and nes/snes/sega roms in the past, but never received any cease and desist letters for those.

What's even more annoying is that my friend constantly downloads 1000+ hours of movies and music and never has received a cease and desist letter his whole life.

Anyway... is there a feature in the Vwii homebrew channel that lets you download wii games straight from there or will I need to do that from my PC if I go that route?

There is no way to download Wii games from the system... And that would be highly illegal. There are lots of sites the post Wii game ISOs and they aren't torrents, but I'm not advising this approach, because again, piracy is not condoned.

However... For the Wii discs you do have, it is very easy to install them onto an HDD with the Wii U. First follow a guide for hacking your vWii. Plug in your HDD to the back ports on the Wii U (preferably with a Y cable or external power source) and put in the Wii game. Boot up a USB Loader (I use WiiFlow) and look for an "install game" option (or similar). Then you can remove the disc and never have to use it again as long as your HDD is working.

And of course, from this point you could copy the game onto your computer to back it up in case your hard drive ever decided to die.

Handy tip: Don't plug the USB drive in to the Wii U until you're already in Wii mode, or the Wii U will bitch at you and try to get you to format it into a Wii U drive. There's a way to hide it, so you don't get that message, but it's a hassle and makes your drive unreadable by some stuff. Easier to jus t not plug it in until you're ready for it.

And of course, from this point you could copy the game onto your computer to back it up in case your hard drive ever decided to die.

Not needed if he's ripping his own discs. Storing the discs somewhere safe is all the backup needed.

Where are you in the USA, may I ask ? Yeah, I know what you mean. From Rhode Island my ISP have me on somewhat of "watch list" for illegal torrent downloads when they blocked me then unblocked it.

Here in Florida, I don't have a problem so far. Strange.
