Now - if you have a fat (as in one of the bulky ones) PS2 - the easiest and probably best way to go currently is to use a FMCB Memory card, booting into Open PS2 Loader (OPL).

While using a gamestar network adapter (buy a sata one from aliexpress): https://aliexpress.com/item/1005001722389920.html

The only "hard part" then is to get the sata HDD connected to your windows PC (its possible via a USB adapter - or you can just buy a used Mybook (https://www.willhaben.at/iad/kaufen-und-verkaufen/d/wd-mybook-externe-festplatte-1tb-493581324 -- make sure its just a fat usb one like the one in this link. No ethernet ports or anything else. (You dont want a Mybook NAS (Network drive)) and then disassemble it, that way you get a drive and a USB adapter for it in one go.)

Make sure the drive is not over 1TB in size (2TB might be harder to get set up).

You can format it in the PS2 using HD Loader first (needs to be a somewhat current version if your drive is 1TB), or use WinHIIP (run as administrator, google settings for 1TB drives) while the drive is connected to your PC via usb. You then can also use WinHIIP to install your first isos to the drive. Eject it, put it into your PS2 using the Gamestar adapter, launch it an run Open PS2 Loader (OPL) to run the games.

Easier than burning them to disc all the time, And therefore "better" than ESR ever would be. For some games you need game specific settings so they run, google OPL and compatibility list to find them.

Good luck. :)

Try copying it to the memory card, or the (as in a) (fat32 formated) usb stick before executing. If it doesnt work, try the other. Just a trouble shooting step that comes to mind.
