Gaming Psp Question

Ok I'm hoping someone could answer this for me.

Now I was thinking of ordering a japanese psp however I want to know if I would still be able to play U.S. games on it. I remember reading that the first psp could play japanese games which I still have but needs to be fixed.

The games are region free but the movies are not.
