Gaming PS4 external drive not working "update system to use external drive"

Hello,
I am on FW 7.02 and have been using my external drive and exploits fine for about 1-2 years, but the past few weeks my external drive has been booting up when I turn on the PS4 and then the error, "update system firmware to use extended storage" comes up and my external drive stops working.

I tried running exploit and then plugging in the hard drive, but it instantly shuts down the PS4.

Any ideas of what can be done?

sounds like possible hdd failure. clone the drive to a new drive, same size. try that.
