I plan on buying a ps2 slim within a few weeks and want to mod it to play backups. Are all ps2 slims modable?

Can i get a link to an updated guide and whats the easiest/cheapest way of doing it?

I was looking into swap magic but idk yet.

No. Newest ones it doesn't work on. You buy a new slim and it's either swap magic or mod chip.

Im using maxell dvd+rw discs should I switch to the verbatim ones?
QUOTE(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2#Technical_specifications)Supported Disc Media: PlayStation 2 format CD-ROM, PlayStation format CD-ROM, Compact Disc Audio, PlayStation 2 format DVD-ROM (4.7 GB)(some games on DVD9 8.5 GB), DVD Video (4.7 GB), DVD-9 (8.5 GB Double-Layer). Later models are DVD+RW, and DVD-RW compatible.
So unless you have a newer PS2 it won't work.

I got a capture card so I'll post photos soon.

So, I ordered a AR disc off Amazon without the USB, since you apparently can make one yourself.
The AR Max version is 3.70 and I've been trying to format a 32MB Imation USB to work with the AR, but so far no formats have been working.

Any advice? xD

I suggest you buy a new USB drive, this happened with my drives but worked with a MP3 player. It depends.

Alright, is there a specific format that AR uses? FAT, FAT32, etc. And what allocation size?

No, no, the problem is AR's support for USB devices.
If one doesn't work, you have to try another. I don't know why they didn't fix it.

Ohh, okay. Thank you, thank you. xD

Edit: I just tried one, and it was able to copy to it, but when I tried to copy from it, it detected no files... xD

Edit Edit: Got a USB that works, made the save file, copied it to the MC, etc. Put PS1 disc in, and it just loads the game. Is it cause I'm on Slim? >>

Tried using a San Disk Cruzer 16 GB and the PS2 fat/slim cannot detect it. The San Disk 4 GB works on both so I'm assuming that some USB are compatible with the PS2 and some are not.

@Twiffles: The save exploit doesn't work on the PS2 Slim. You'll need to find a PS2 phat to set it up. Once you get FreeMcBoot installed you can use it on your PS2 slim.

I got a ps2 slim silver edition.

What are my options for modding.

Would like to do just a memory card type if possible.

The guides ive read seem outdated so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

done this a couple of days ago and used this link for info http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=fmcb.html say's user guides at the top and there's a noobie guide and video guides as-well fake cards do work got a 64mb fake with freeMcboot 1.8 installed can't get my girlfriend of the ps2 now she's got such a selection of games and there so easy to load

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question to ask. Will I be able to play games from another region after softmodding my ps2 using this guide. In other words, play PAL games on a NTSC unit and vice versa. Thanks for any help or advice!
