PS1/2 Ps2 slim without DD

Jumping the gun alittle since I have a long to do list. Thinking of doing a Ps2P but not going to even bother if I need the DD , so the question is can the slim Ps2's run without the DD? I know the Phat can but the gamecube cannot(I know it's nintendo).

Afaik it should boot up fine without the DVD drive present.

However I'm not sure how you would proceed in executing games ;p

Mcboot, Openloader and a usb, I saw on modretro that the usb loaded games work pretty well.

Possible yes.

But keep in mind that it's laggy with video's are playing.
And doesn't have 100% compatibility.

Yeah I know I checked on the compatibility list, the only games I will be playing much are star wars battlefront 1+ 2 They confirm 2 is fine which is good enough for me.
