PS1/2 Ps2 Mods

I just bought a ps2 and I would like some info on how to play backups. Is there a cd we can burn like for the dreamcast? Or maybe a dvd we need to buy? I know there is modchips but I don't want to open my ps2 and I don't want to void my warrenty if possible... I also would like to play backup ps1 games if possible but I don't really care.
