I was given a phat PS2 which came with a modchip installed on it.The downside was that the laser lens was broken so I had to spend a little money getting a new len for it. Now I'm looking into getting one of those HDloaders solutions but the problem is that the cost of one of those network adapters is too expensive.

But is there anyone here who has one and is it worth it? Any downsides to it?

I've used HDLoader for a while now and I wopuld say it is worth it. You can play all your PS2 games without worrying about damaging your lens. Only cons I can think of are:
-Doesn't work with all games
-Might take some time configuring the options in HDloader to get some games to work.
-Transferring games over to the hard drive will take a while through the network. (however you could use WinHipp instead)
There are compatibility lists all over the net which tell you what games work and what settings need to be checked in order to get some games running. It's really great, being able to play PS2 games with very little loading times. I say it's a worthwhile investment. I have a 500 gig maxtor in my PS2 and I'm nowhere near close to filling that bad boy up.
