PS1/2 PS1 swap tricks on fat PS2s

Hi guys. I just bought a fat PS2, scph-30001, and installed a hard drive to load games via OPL using FMCB. PS2 games are working fine, but I'm wanting to play some PS1 games and I've heard booting them from HDD in OPL via POPS is not the best for what I want to play (FF7 and others).

So in short what is the best way to do a swap trick on this console for PS1 games? I know I can't use psxlauncher.elf because the system isn't a v9 but would the browser/ulaunch swap trick work? Or is there some other way?
