This is an idea I stole from the osu! forums.
Posts get auto-merged with an unsightly note if someone double-posts within a short time span – this is by design and I approve of it, though I am sad to see that, with the latest site redesign some time ago, this note has lost its ‘Please don't double post!’ warning, which I would like to see return.
Either way, I think it would be nice if the post text box itself also showed a warning above it, if you started composing another post while still within the merging period:
Furthermore, it could also remind/teach people about the multi-quote feature, as I all too often see repeat double-post offenders quote and reply to posts one by one with auto-merged posts, instead of multi-quoting everything and posting at once.
