Hardware Price

The question on my mind now is, if there isn't gonna be enough in-stock for some months after the initial launch, who is gonna get one (or more) early, and then try to sell it on eBay for even more?

The stock mentioned was as of March 31st

Actually Europeans shouldnt be really paying anything above 230 euros, there were preorders that offered that price.

The price of the American 3DS translates roughly to 185 euros (the price in America is without tax), however add the high European tax and you get these:

Minimum Price - varies by country and its tax:

Britain: (20 % VAT) 222 euros.
Greece (23 % VAT): 227,5 evro.

Two sites in Britain sell the DS around the 230 euro mark (one bundles it with another game). Which basicly proves that its the shops and not nintendo that are going to rip us off.

God, NOE(Nintendo of Europe) needs to learn that you can't just turn dollars in euros. we're paying a fucken 333 US$ over here! +shops want profit, so we're going to buy it in NL for a highly overpriced 280 euros! ...I said to myself I wouldn't use Piracy on this handheld, but this is just asking for it!

First region lock
Now the price.

Thanks nintendo, for already screwing everything up!

Also, to add to my own post, games are gonna be like 60 euros each!

do i get to be happy:

I am so strapped for cash...

But the innner Nintendo Fanboy and the desire for the newest handheld make me HAVE to get this 3DS. I will buy whatever the best title is at launch, until then I can play my DS games on it.

If DS flashcards are comparable (HOPE the SC DSTWO is) then that would make my life much easier too.

I was complaining about how we are not getting the black one here, but now we are.

I will get the black one.

I need to sell some of my extra crap lying around... I will have enough if I get rid of my precious valuable games and stuff.

The Wii is already pretty slim, but the 3DS not only seems to have it's capabilities (or similar) in a smaller form factor, but also has it's own 3D display. I don't doubt that Nintendo is making money off of the device, even at $250. The PS3 is a whopper of a machine, and while I doubt it cost as much to make a 3DS as it does to make a PS3, the PS3 now doesn't cost nearly as much as it did on release, as it is now cheaper to make the same stuff, as well as the newer units having cut back on what the initial units had, such as the hardware for PS2 compatibility.

I know this does not mean much to you guys but, It would be instant buy for me if it was 250$ around here.
Considering DSi is still over 320$ I don't expect 3DS to be less than 450.

As Reggie Said: "300 to 400 dollars... Of course, we're not going there."
270 euro seems to be the price here, which is 365 usd right now. Reggie should be NoE boss.

I bought my DSi at the end of the 2010 year for 124 LVL(Latvian currency) which is ~248$. What a bullshit.
Now I need to feel how Europeans are fucked up once again. At least when 3DS will be hacked and legion-lock removed, but I hope it will happen not so quickly, Nintendo still need to get solid profit from whole 3DS marketing. Besides all cool games are coming at the Winter 2011 and 2012+

I reckon it's a bit too pricey here in the U.K.

Ninty may be just banking on ealry adopters that appreciate the technology and features, willing to pay that price.

But I honestly can't see it staying so highly priced for too long.
The largest demographic that Nintendo aim at are parents, or rather the kids of parents.
Way too many parents who are not big on tech will simply see this as a hand-held console that is over priced.
As is for parents buying a kid a DS as a birthday present is a sizeable gift. But the 3DS is going to be strictly off the birthday list for a huge amount. It's strictly Christmas presents bracket!

I suppose summer 2011 and Christmas will tell all on sales.

Since when do you guys in Greece pay Taxes????

at all what u say is not true. VAT here is 18% and other consoles and electronics are not €=$, but changed to the right price (for example xbox360 and ps3). The price could be without a problem in Germany and France 199€.

Here is some more info on possibly why the price is at £230 in the UK

QUOTE said:
A UK publication comes forward with details about the launch lineup, and some information may be available about the cost of the device.

According to GamesRadar.com, retailers will be purchasing their 3DS systems directly from Nintendo for £173 (approximately $277). This means that any retailers who are setting an asking price of £230 are making a 33% profit on the new handheld console. As retailers have been given the option of setting their own price for the system, the potential for competition among retailers is great. Expecting the competition to drive the price below £173, however, seems unlikely.

Another rumor, originating from UK publication MCV, stated that the 3DS will have 10 or more games available at launch. Nintendogs + Cats, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, Pro Evolution Soccer 3DS, and LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars have been confirmed by retailers to be day-one titles. In addition, Ubisoft has released a schedule, which indicates that the following titles will likely also be available on day one: Asphalt 3D, Rayman 3D, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars 3D and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D. While none of this is confirmed, Nintendo did state that they hope to have between 25 and 30 games available in the launch window.
