After getting the exploit set up for my WiiU, I changed my router settings to block the NUS urls (listed in one of the stickies) to prevent any future updates. I noticed that I can still access the eshop, though. Doesn't blacklisting those urls prevent eshop access as well? It just makes me wonder if the blacklisting is working correctly. How can I be sure?

Wait not with tubehax it doesn't you have that right ?
No, I blacklisted these URLs to nintendo's update servers in my wireless router. From what I understand, Tubehax can be rather unreliable.
  • nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
  • nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
  • nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
  • nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
  • nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net
  • c.shop.nintendowifi.net
  • cbvc.cdn.nintendo.net
  • cbvc.nintendo.net

Why Tubehax can be unreliable?

I throught it was impossible to update while it is enabled.

Related, I set up a OpenDNS based DNS that blocks updates, and it does show both eShop and System Update as "Unable to connect to server". However, there isn't an "x" by the download icon. Is this a bad thing?

What blocks the eshop is the version check and that's what nnu patcher bypasses
huh, well I'm on 5.5.1, and normally (with TubeHax and URL blocking) I cannot access the eShop, but with nuu-patcher it allows me to access the eShop.
I assume it bypasses the version check and the blocked URLs (although temporarily, obviously).

Blocking in router and using tubehax DNS until we get a definitive answer for this. But I can't imagine the Wii U would override your DNS settings temporarily to auto-obtain for no reason
