They would of had to started development in 2014 for it to come out this year plus game freak aren't used to making pokemon games for hardware like the switch.
switch is arm cpu same as 3ds, so yes they are very used to code games in arm since the gba...

Based on past trends, I think it's far too soon for a new main series game. It's not even been two years since Gen 7 came out. If we do get more Pokemon, perhaps it'd be Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? Spike Chunsoft is a confirmed Switch developer, and if the release date is at the end of this year, it would be 3 years since the last one, which continues the usual PMD release trend.

Sun/Moon didn't seem like a main game to me, maybe it was that they only added 25 monsters instead of the standard 52, a lot of them didn't evolve, and it had by far the worst pokemon music. I don't think the second mystery dungeon sold well either

Sun / Moon are vastly different to any other Pokemon game to date (no gyms, Pokemon to call instead of HM moves, no national Pokedex and so on). I dont think been different is necessarily a bad thing, however I do feel we got half finished games not once, but twice.

Online functionality seems limited, for example when putting a Pokemon on the GTS you can't even type a message anymore like in Gen 6. The PSS system was really good in Gen 6 i thought, that's totally gone too.

No national Pokedex is a real shame if you ask me, it just doesn't seem right and gives little incentive to bring your past Pokemon to Gen 7.

I'm not personally a fan of the Zmoves either.

More than anything though what annoys me is the same game essentially got re-released a year later with some very minor changes. That would have been a really good chance to improve on Gen 7, not make a quick bit of money because the Switch game is not finished.

Yea z-moves should've only been usable by pokemon with lower base ratings. ORAS and XY was definitely better than USUM by a long stretch. USUM's story is the most emerging though because in the other games the story was just something thrown off to the side (i didn't like SM story though)

if it comes i am buying.

tbh they could just release some crappy remake of red/blue, add in a bit more story + challenge and i will be there in line sadly.. as is my dream for a 3D pokemon game.

I hope they go all out and release something phenomenal but sadly their marketting + potential userbase is just so huge I think they'll play it simple.

I personally doubt it will come out this year as we saw NOTHING of it last year other than the guy saying it will be released at some point.
IT it does come out, then Nintendo Switch will win this year in regards to console sales and units shifted. add in metroid later in the year with a new fire emblem game.. and i'd say they probably have equalled last years stellar software lineup.
Then the year after they release a new smash + mk which are harder games to draw people to buy a console but are games which everyone who owns the console will buy.

If thats nintendo's plan, they are geniuses... but i really think pokemon this year is a HUGE ask given they are sadly probably going to have to work from the groundup unless they just want to increase the resolution and framerate of the 3DS games which would be ashame given the switch's hardware and what BOTW/mario did.

I don;t think they need new pokemon. The first 150/250 will trigger EVERYONE's nostalgia and force a buy. also lets be honest, our childhood dreams are to see a zapdos in the wild or a bulbasaur... not the newer guys around the block. I just think the switch isn't gamefreaks forte so they will need a lot more time to adapt to the hardware. they need to make a game which will also look good on the TV. Hopefully whoever did BOTW are giving them some hints because obviously we all know it looks incredible.

A mainline Pokémon game was stated to be in development. So, if you don't know, you live under a rock.

Wasn't the pokemon in development called Stars or something, and it was supposed to be a reboot of Sun and Moon? It was dumped in favor for a new entry into the series. Is this what you're referring to?

No, THAT was a debunked rumor.

Ahhhh, gotcha. Well, I'm excited for a new Pokeman anyways. I've never finished a single one of the RPGs, but they've always been fun time fillers, and with the direction they're taking, they seem to be filling both the RPG and life simulator I've been looking for. People make fun of me for it, but I'll tell you what, give me a RPG with player based stats, monster catching and caring (Digimon World 1 style), and world interaction and I'll pay upwards to 120 bucks for it.
