You know, for a light-hearted game with funny quirky characters and witty dialogues, the Phoenix Wright series is a bit too much Grave of the Fireflies featuring Die Hakkenden featuring Les Miserables with a little extra suffering on the side. Normal people are personally involved with one murder in their lifetime, two on the outside. But if you're the main character in one of the games, you're lucky to make it to the end of the chapter alive. And on top of that...

Your parents may be brutally murdered, often in front of you. Or may disappear without a trace, try to return several years later, only to be brutally slaughtered. Or, odds are good that your father will shoot your mother, and have your grandfather blackmail him for years, disappear without a trace to avoid jail for suspicion of murder of your grandfather (oh yes, the old bean gets offed as well), only to be bludgeoned to death with a bottle. Or your mentor might turn out to be a murderer (of your parents, most likely).

In any case, come on. Yeah, yeah, it's a game that revolves around murder, but when every case absolutely has to involve all known characters, this is like Melrose Place only with murder instead of sex.

A limited cast, and over the course of the series, everyone does it with everyone else('s father). And then everyone ends up orphaned several times over. Or dead. Or both.

I don't get what you wrote. Can someone explain it to me?

Easier said than done... but it's kinda like Cabot Cove Fever.

A small rural town in Maine that is murder capital of the USA, and just knowing Jessica Fletcher will mean your gonna murder someone, be falsely accused of murder by a overzealous but short sighted detective or worse your gonna die. Seriously, I'm surprised that woman got invited anywhere. You wouldn't invite her for Christmas.

However in PW, your sister can be murdered, you accused of the murder, then later when you get off, your aunt tries to frame you for murder again, then just when everything seems to have calmed down your mother, who abandoned you when you were young, dies at what seems like your hand, only you didn't know it was your mother because that bitch didn't even bother to acknowledge you, no "my how well you've grown", only to find out that she was killed by the prosecuter who was your dead sisters lover before he fell into a coma, because he was poisoned by a evil woman who is now dead but being channeled spiritually to take revenge on you and your boss. Have I missed anything?

I would have done Apollo, but just trying to put that bastard storyline into words gives me a headache.

Exactly.

Now, I know it's a courtroom game revolving around murders most horrid. And I know that the same characters will keep popping up all the time because they are popular. But that means that popular and/or regular characters will keep running into bloody murder, over and over again. I mean, CSI is all about murder, but the victims and killers involved are usually just some random passerby, rarely the main characters.

And the next game in the series better turn this practice around, the main characters are running out of relatives

lol.. they just get a new set of characters

Well, it won't be interesting if not about murder

I mean, it won't be good if all Phoenix do is defending thieves (other than thievery and murder, what else will do? Sexual abuse? yeah, right...)

Also, Apollo Justice features a new set of charaters, which means he might get lots of relatives to be killed

I know, I know, but can't it be murder of random people in the street for a change? I mean, those happen too, you know. Not every brutal slaying in town has to be connected to the same five or six people, does it?

Jessica Fletcher
Detective Conan
Phoenix Wright
Neuro & Yako

Put them in the same room and if you are lucky you can see tomorrow.

I think PW should take a new direction.

Maybe the next game could be all about tax law.

Man, if that was the case I'd be playing non-stop.

well, at least it keeps the story interesting enough to spawn sequels

P.S. : I hope we can have a normal yay smiley without the ds or gba or psp inserted, it's hard to say "yay!" but with those systems on it, kinda makes it not the way I'm saying.....
