Hardware Oddly specific PSU requirements

Hey guys!

I'll cut right to the chase, I'm looking to do an mATX conversion of an old PowerMac G5 in the not-so-distant future. I have all my parts picked out, but I'm kind of stuck when it comes to the PSU, because (as some of you who own older Mac Pros or G5s may know) the PSU is in a very long and relatively thin case. Some people get around this by just cutting into the PSU case to accommodate the taller ATX style PSUs, but I'd like to avoid that if possible by tearing down an ATX (or other "standard" form factor) PSU and stuffing it into the case. The requirements I would like for such a PSU are:

• MUST be easy to tear down; inside PSU should come out of casing relatively easily
• MUST be at least semi-modular
• MUST be no more than 60mm high (without fan) unpacked
• (Preferably) Output ports should be mounted in a way that I can move it a bit if possible. Not as big of a deal, but I would like to do a clean mod in a way that I can just plug cables into the floor of the case if possible
• MUST be a reliable PSU; should be at least gold efficiency and needs to last quite a long time. I had a PSU picked out, and then I started looking at reviews and it seemed to have a trend of dying within 10 months (for those curious, don't get the Corsair CS550M

Even if you don't have any recommendations, thank you for reading through this And if you could point me toward a PSU that meets the criteria, I would very much appreciate it!

Ok, so after a little bit of research, it's looking like the SilverStone SX500-LG is the way to go, unless anyone else has any particular recommendations

Corsair SF600?

Fully modular SFF psu.

Tiny compared to a normal supply. Might be able to squeeze it in without having to tear it down.

Don't know exactly how much space you have, but at 63mm, it is slightly over the 60mm you want, but that's including the fan and 3mm is only just over.

I would not tear out the insides of a PSU if I were you. That just sounds like electrocution waiting to happen.

Oh, wow, thank you VERY much! I'm actually more interested in the 450w version as it is $10 cheaper than the Silverstone 500w and appears to have higher favorability, besides

Normally I'd agree, but I've worked with similar stuff before (unpackaged a CRT with GIANT capacitors for a science project) and know what to look out for. Thanks for the concern, though!

Large capacitors is one thing, but you'd be messing with an AC/DC converter which is the main reason I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, I definitely would like to do as little as possible to the original power supply. I have a couple of different ways that I may be able to fit the PSU into the mod and unpacking it is kind of my last resort in case everything else looks bad or would be too invasive to the original case.

The fact that I've found a couple of PSUs now that are very close to 60mm in height kind of gives me hope that I can pull this off without having to take the original casing off.
