Hacking O3DS to N3DS Questions

Sorry for the late response. After looking over some of the process it mentioned some of things you would do to start off homebrew and you mentioned a stock new 3DS (it's new and wasn't even turned on yet) should I do this process after setting up emunand and the transfer or do I do it right from starting it up and then transferring?

Do it right from starting it up - the guide tells you how to set up emuNAND. Even though you know how to do this, it's easier to do it the guide's way in case it makes a difference further along the guide.

Well you could do it after having emuNAND set up, but then you won't have a9lh, and you'd have to worry about losing your data if you transferred then and decided to finish setting up a9lh later.

The above poster went into a lot of detail, but here's a less detailed guide.

0. Delete any games on the O3DS you don't plan to play in the next month. Too much data makes the transfer get stuck.

1. You need an SD card in both 3DS consoles. If you want to eventually use the one in your O3DS in your N3DS, you need to get a new SD card, format emuNAND on it, backup the emuNAND on the old SD card, restore the backup to the new card, and copy all the files from the old card to the new card. Then put the new SD in the o3DS and put the old SD in the new 3DS. Format emuNAND on the new 3DS.

2. Update emuNAND on both consoles

3. Initiate system transfer on both consoles (in emuNAND)

5. Choose wireless data transfer when it asks

6. When the new 3DS finishes and restarts, disable wireless in sysNAND before booting to emuNAND. Cancel the transfer. Then in emuNAND, visit the eShop, log in, and exit. All your games appear.

To answer your questions, everything will be transferred, and emuNAND can be updated to the latest nowadays, as long as you use an up to date CFW.

Okay, finally got done with the whole process, now the transfer. How do I restore the backup to the new card without putting it inside a 3DS(you didn't specify which) and when put the files in from the computer between cards, won't that interfere with some of the homebrew apps(after following the process you linked)

OK, so you have:
1. A large capacity card currently in your O3DS that you'd like to use in your N3DS (hereafter known as, 'old card')
2. A random smaller card currently in your N3DS that you'd like to give to your O3DS (hereafter known as, 'new card')

Swapping cards involves:
1. Moving the emuNAND partition on the old card to the new card
2. Swapping the files over

*EmuNANDTool is used on your PC, emuNAND9 is used on your 3DS, I'm assuming you are using updated sysNAND not emuNAND on your a9lh N3DS*

Steps:
0. Delete enough stuff off the O3DS so that its stuff can fit on the lower-capacity new card (plus less stuff means more likely to be successful in transferring)
1. Use emuNANDTool to backup the emuNAND partition on the old card
2. Backup all the files on the old card too
3. Use emuNAND9 to delete the emuNAND partition on the old card
4. Backup all the files on the new card (all the a9lh stuff). Keep this backup safe, don't delete it!
5. Create an emuNAND partition on the new card if it doesn't have one (using emuNAND9)
6. Restore the emuNAND partition from the old card to the new card using emuNANDTool
7. Copy the backup of the files of the old card to the new card
8. Put the new card in the O3DS and check it works fine as expected
9. Copy the backup of the a9lh stuff to the old card, put it in your N3DS and check it works fine as expected (don't delete backup)

Whether it works or not let me know, my a9lh transfer was from N3DS to N3DS and I didn't get the wireless data transfer option.

You should probably update, but there's an option like "SD format options..." then "FormatSD..." and finally "... without emunand"

When I tried restoring, it failed and it says Sd not ready

I don't have much on my O3DS, so I can do without it. Any way I can get the old card to be used instead of the new without the need of a transfer?
