I think it was all a scheme by a few employees who were paid on commission. So they made a few excuses to make people buy as much crap as they could get away with. "You want the iPad? I'm afraid you have to buy this yacht as well. Sorry, company policy. Also, the iPad has to be used with the SIM by the provider paying me for every SIM I sell approved by... um... Apple. Apple, yes, company policy, you know what they're like."

Australian iPad buyers have been forced to buy all manner of unnecessary add-ons including screen protectors, docking stations, covers, chargers and extended warranties due to a reported Official Apple policy. Shoppers reported sales assistants said it was 'company policy' or 'Apple policy' to sell the devices only with accessories, or not at all. A store manager for Authorised Apple Reseller JB Hi-Fi said it was 'a bad policy but it was Apple's policy and they couldn't sell one without it.' Other customers were told they must 'buy a Telstra SIM because the iPad is locked to Telstra,' even though it wasn't. The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission and Consumer affairs are investigating the complaints

I don't work for JB HiFi but i do work at a dick smith (competitor) and only two stores in our state carry it because apparently you need at least a certain percentage (can't remember off-hand) of your store's inventory to be apple products or accessories. Fucking stupid :/

Funny this should pop up, I was actually in JB Hi-Fi today having a look at them. I'm not gonna buy one though of course, never planned to because iv already got an iPod touch and the iPad is just a big iPod touch with 3G capabilities (if you get the 3G model)

GAME in the UK have been known to pull similar stunts. When the Wii or DS was in short supply (near the Wii's release or around Christmas) they used their clout as the biggest games retailer to get far more units than anywhere else. Then once it was sold out in all other stores and online, they only sold "bundles" with say two crap games, a carry case, an extra power adaptor, games cases and whatever other crap they wanted to shift.
