EXFAT is absolutely FINE to use. Corruption only becomes an issue of one uses homebrew on a daily basis, things like emulators which constantly write to the card. Otherwise the chances of corruption are very small

Just that people don't recommend it, it is fine to use exFAT, but you are more prone to file corruption.

Hey. Where do I find this update? I'm going to restore my NAND now and do that update alone.

You can use ChoiDujourNX to update your NSW FW and install exfat update. It will ask you if you want to update FW with fat32 or exfat.

Highly recommended to use fat32 to avoid corruption. For larger XCI I use XCI-NSP-Split. It will split and convert larger files to separate nsp files ready to be install with any installer. You will need your keys.dat file for this.

That seems like a big issue in and of itself though. If someone chooses to play an emulator every day because they're bussing through Chrono Trigger for the nth time, they shouldn't have to worry about corruption. The switch to FAT32 is as simple as formatting after pressing a different button and the downsides are just that you have to split your exceedingly large files - it's no big deal.

Again that's only an issue if you use A LOT of hombrew on a daily basis. If you just play Switch games, corruption becomes a non issue completely. I've been using an EXFAT formatted card since i hacked my Switch, i only play switch games on it and i've had zero corruption issues because nothing that i use is constantly writing to the SD card.

Again that depends on what you use on your system. If you use a lot of emulators then yes since they constantly write to the SD card. If you don't and just play switch games then it becomes a non issue. People treat EXFAT like it's the second coming of satan and it's 100% going to corrupt your card when that couldn't be farthest from the truth

You have no idea what you are talking about, exfat is less reliable and robust than either NTFS or HFS+ and slower than a native file system. It lacks of redundant file tables, that FAT32 has and journaling can lead to data loss as well.

Actually i do know what i'm talking about. Yes i know exfat is less reliable and i know Nintendo's exfat drivers are complete shit. HOWEVER corruption only becomes an issue with heavy use of homebrew that is constantly writing to the card. For normal Switch games it's not an issue whatsoever

I accidentally restored my Boot0 and Boot1 and now I get Error: Fatal Error:inappropriate kernel embedded in context" with atmosphere
have my NAND but I can't restore 'cus my SDcard is missing 100mb
cant use the partition restore because I am missing everything in the partition folder

Anyone have any tips?

Don't use EXFAT.

If Nintendo's driver wasn't busted it would be fine.

It's still fine if you don't do heavy homebrew usage. The crappy exfat drivers mostly(i wont say only) affects homebrew, hence why Nintendo never bothered to fix/replace them with something better. If all you do is use normal Switch games, your chances of corruption are minimal

I understand what it is that you're saying, but the difference is these problems don't exist on FAT32. It's like saying you can have a fully functional car or a car that may break down if you drive a lot, but if you don't, it's the same as other vehicle.

Yes i know the problems don't exist on fat32 but that's no reason to treat exfat like the second comming of satan(Note: This is a general statement, not aimed directly at you since you didn't do this), not to mention that exfat has the advantage of having a larger file limit.(Another note: I'm aware of USB installation but that doesn't work for everyone). In the end it's up to the individual to make the final choice when it comes to their chosen format of their SD cards

happened to me 3 times long before i had any homebrew

And yet i've been using mine with exfat for well over a year, not a single issue whatsoever. Same goes for all my friends who also have the same setup as me. And the same kind of card for that matter. And anytime i hear people complain about corrupted cards, i find out they are heavy emulator users. And i mean HEAVY
Tittle installers count as homebrew, just so you know

can you provide some logs to back this up?

Hey sorry to snatch a thread, such a small question didn't want to make a whole new thread and this is some what related ....

Any reasons at all yet to go from 7.0.1 to 8.0.1 ?

None whatsoever, 8.0.1 doesn't add any new keys and things are generally more stable/compatible on 7.0.1
