You can't play online if you're not on the latest firmware. Automatic Software Downloads refers to game updates, not system updates. The DNS will block system updates.

Disable the DNS whenever you want to use something then, and enable it afterwards. Make sure to delete any updates if they download.
Strange.... I input the DNS thingies again, tried to access the eshop and online multiplayer again, and actually SUCCEEDED! Dunno what happened, but thanks, @Lia!
