Homebrew newbie

Hi guys my friend bought a secondhand wii that has homebrew and backup launcher on it

he tried to install a usb loader after he seen mine using hd

now backup launcher wont work and his wii keeps crashing

am a newbie ive only done my own wii

i dont know what he has used and what software is in it

he was going to connect it to the net and try and reset it
ive asked him to wait until i ask for advice in here just in case he bricked it

1) Is the anyway to findout what software is on the Wii ?

2) Is there anyway of removing all all the software change so he can start from scratch ?

3) What should be done next ?



Any help much appreciated i dont know how to help him ?

its best to just grab a guide mate preferably xzxero's from the Hacking section and run right through it

it will overwrite/update all the crap on it and update ya to 4.2E in the process.

update the firmware with a disc update, check which firmware its on by going to the Wii Settings and looking at the top right hand corner.. it should say X.XXE (Seing your from the UK)

also, just because a backup launcher doesnt work, doesnt mean a wii is semibricked.
semibrick counts only if you try access your settings, but instead leads you to an opera page error

GO TO WII SETTINGS THE CHECK ON THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE SCREEN.
2) Is there anyway of removing all all the software change so he can start from scratch ?
NO NEED TO DELETE OR RESTORE ANYTHING. INSTALLING IOS/CIOS OVERWRITES THE OTHER. DO NOT FORMAT EITHER.
3) What should be done next ?
