Hello! I recently decided to get homebrew running on Wii and for the most part it's been pretty simple. That is until I began messing with USB Loader GX. Like others before me, I'm running into the problem where it will return a black screen when trying to start a game. I've looked through many threads with the same problem, but cannot find an exact answer. So hopefully this is the right place to ask and one more thread won't be an issue (it's been some time since I've used a forum).

With that said, I'll do my best to list as much information on the problem as I can.

Currently I'm using a North American Wii with a 32GB SDHC for channels and a 1TB WD 3.0 HDD for games, both formatted as FAT32. I'm on the most up to date Wii version as well as the most recent USB Loader GX version. The only games I have loaded were all backed up using USB Loader GX, about 16 in total. I have not tested every single one, but a decent amount result in a black screen and the Wiimote turning off as soon as I attempt to start them (some examples include: Excite Truck, Pikmin 1 and 2, Sonic & The Black Knight). I even left some for 20+ minutes just to see if anything would load, but the only way out of it as far as I can tell is to power down the system and try again.

Strangely a handful of games have worked, loading after just a few seconds (New Super Mario Bros Wii, Battleship, and Mario Super Sluggers). These continued to play with no issues.

With that out of the way, here's my sysCheck.

I won't lie, I have no idea what any of this means. I'm new to this, so I don't entirely know what I'm doing outside of what tutorials tell me. Though I have tried a few other changes to the IOS249/250 spots based on other's suggestions. I also know some might suggest just to use a different USB loader, but I'd really like to get GX working smoothly considering how clean the UI is.

If there's anything I've overlooked or left out, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

your syscheck report ==> OK

what version of usb loader gx are you using?

did you use version 1271 of usb loader gx?

You might need a Y cable for a better connection with the wii and your hard drive == <for your games to be better detected.

I'm running ver 3.0 r1272 since that's what was available. Should I try a previous version?

Also when you say Y cable, do you mean one that splits into both ports on the back?

Yes

or test this GX version of @blackb0x ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx.149922/page-1316#post-8856063

I know you quote it in your post, that you would really like to have GX.

But you can also install "" Wiiflow lite "" and "" Configurable loader v70 "", then you can test == >> me that's how I work:yaywii::yay::hrth:

Just tried 1271, but now there's no game selection. Like the main UI is present, but the default menu with the 3D box to the left and list to the right is absent. Trying to back up a game also says the game is 0.0GBs and there is no space to add it. I reformatted the drive again to see if that fixed anything, but it's still blank.

Trying that other version also results in the same problems...is there something I've missed?

Alright, so some good news. I decided to try it again without changing anything and now it's running properly. I'm currently backing up a few games to see if the black screen starts affecting things again, but it seems like it should be good now. I'll update once I test a few more.

I'm very happy to report the Y cable did the trick. Every game (sans Excite Truck) is now running without a black screen! Thanks again @jeannotte for recommending I grab one! Would have never considered that to be the issue.

Now to figure out why Excite Truck is still acting up...
