Gaming new hdtv help needed

ok, so im getting a ps3 and want a new tv

i have the choice of a 24" led lcd 1080p set

or a 32" lcd 720p set

im viewing from a bit less than 8feet (100inches) away

i read that at that distance th human eye cant tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" tv, is that true?

would the fact the 1080p is led make any difference?

also that not many ps3 games are 1080p and most are 720p, is that still true or old news?

Thats more or less true as a general way of looking at it >_>; most people should not be able to tell....

It should make colors looks marginally better... more or less...

That's still true, and very unlikely to change much with the ps3 (since having a game run in 1080p is much more taxing on a system than 720p, which means developers tend to go for 720p or even sub HD for games just for the sake of optimization)

so unless im planning on sitting really close and watching lots of blurays (which im assuming are 1080p?) i should go for larger 720p over smaller 1080p, right?

and then only consider 1080p when im looking at 40"+ tv's?

At a distance of 8 feet, pretty much... (And yeah, all blurays run at 1080p afaik)

Viewing distance Calculator. This may help. Generally having an oversized TV is not good, but if you compare a 1080p vs 720p HDTV when they are next to each other, you will probably see a difference. If you use it at home for PS3 games, you probably won't see that big a difference, but Blurays will show you the difference. Also the type of screen used will affect colors and such.

Actually, there are not "that" many games who run at 1080p (meaning you're right), so going for the bigger size might be better in this case (I can't be bothered to convert feet to meters for viewing distance...)

So if the 32" runs at 1080i (HD Ready) I think it would work quite fine actually. Can't recall how small a 24" is in my mind, but is it too small? If so, go for bigger size.
Meh, I dunno. I'd say size over quality, but it depends.
