Hardware New 3DS missed opportunity (3D feature)

So I was just thinking how cool it would be if 3D systems tracked you and displayed the different pictures depending on the angle you were wathing the image from.
Kind of like you being able to ajust the camera a bit by slight movement.
The I started to think about "then you probably need exra cameras to do that and maybe better hardware".

Then it hit me that the New 3DS's actually tracks your eyes to adjust the 3D effect to work with your eyes from an angle.
Couldn't the same information provided from this technology have been also used to also look around an object from different angles (with proper software)?

When the New 3DS came out, I always wanted to see it up close. 2 years later I managed to find a demo booth in greece, and I saw majora's mask and I felt disappointed.
20 minutes later I realized why: I thought that by moving my head from left to right I would be able to see to the left of link or to the right of link.

I'm sure you'd be able to make some homebrew that can take advantage of this.
