I use vegas pro 11 for gameplay edits. all relatively simple. find it pretty easy to use. Though, I have been wanting to get my hands on Premire pro.

It really all depends on what you want to do with sony vegas. are you making AMV, or home movies, or recording gameplay and using it to edit etc. what you want to learn depends on your needs. so if you want to do AMV's you'd have to learn about effects, beat count and scene changing for just for example, not entirely all that would be needed to be learnt.
if it's home movies, then it's just simple video splicing and cropping to remove black bars. for game-play. it could be that you need a logo, which is a simple picture overlay, and then the crop and adding a voice over into the mix. everything is pretty easy, and self explanatory with vegas. so just mess around with he program. and if the specific need for something arises, just go to youtube and type what you want to know how to do. ex. type in search box "how to do moving spotlight sony vegas" and there is sure to be a video that explains in detail what to do.
