Okay so I'm completely new to this site and the term "modded" as well. Noob.

Basically someone is selling me a modded Wii that I was planning on giving to one of my cousins as a gift. Now I'm aware that a modded Wii is a hacked/modified version of the Wii that can play burned/downloaded games but if someone didn't know about that, would they still be able to play it normally? For example, if they had just used it to play normal Wii games, would it still work properly like a normal Wii would?

Sorry if I sound stupid, I'm really unfamiliar with all this lol.

Yea, it would still work with regular discs fine.

Note that if it is hacked, it may have the homebrew channel and some other unofficial channels installed. For someone who doesn't know what they are doing, these channels could have the ability to seriously fuck up the wii. You may want to check for this and remove the channels if they are there (you should be able to do this through the channel management in the wii's settings)

Okay thank you both! I'll check it out before I give it to them and remove any extra things that I don't see on my normal one. Just didn't want to give them something that wouldn't end up working or something. Thanks!

You should also run a system update if it isn't already on version 4.3. There is a chance system updates may be blocked by priiloader. To check for this, turn on the wii while holding the reset button. If it just acts like normal and goes to the wii menu, you should be fine. Otherwise, if the priiloader screen comes up, go down to "system menu hacks", make sure everything is disabled, choose save settings, then you can go to the system menu and do the update (if it isn't already updated).

Strange that someone would want to reduce a Wii's potential power in half by removing all hacks.
Have you seen Newer Super Mario Bros Wii in action? And also all the emus you can run? That would be sufficient reasons to keep the softmod, personnally. But I guess I can understand, if the future owner can't be bothered to learn how to use it fully.
