Homebrew game Need help with Lzcompression

Recently I finally figured out how lzdecompression works on gba, for now I am using grit to compress bitmaps and sprites and things work fine, but I want to be able to make my own map arrays and then compress that array for use in my project, as time goes on I want to be able to compress everything, be that strings and all that, so I need to know a little more about how to compress things myself, any good tutorials out there that I can read up on that can teach me how it works?
