Homebrew Question N64 Emulation, without overclock

Hey all,
Just wondering if there is any special configuration in retroarch to get 20fps in the N64 emulator?
I have retroarch as an NSP, but don't seem to be getting more than about 10fps.
I noticed Mr Homebrew was getting some playable framerates before he had the overclock (btw I'm not referring to the Lakka videos).
Just wondering if there is any retroarch configuration (other than threaded video) that can get Mario 64 at 20fps?

turn off audio sync, or just turn off audio? I can't test, not having a switch
