Just bought a PSP 1000 from Ebay for £8.99. Had a message from the guy who was mostly very upset that his 32 watchers resulted in 2 bids (don't set things to end at 3am then!) and to tell me it is a Japanese launch model that he never updated- he just E-mailed a picture of it showing firmware to be 5.02

I already have a (real) sandisk 4GB stick for it that I had in a Sony phone, was just wondering if I am able to upgrade to 6.2 with US/EU firmware on a JP PSP? I read somewhere that it is fine, but I trust the people of the 'temp more than I trust them!

Sorry for being thick! I successfully did a friends UK model last year so once I know if I can do it or not, I'm fine!

Yes, firmware isn't region specific (i too have a Japanese 1000, the launch model with the superior LCD). However, he's lying unless he had it second hand as if it had never been updated the last credible firmware it'd be on is around 2.xx or 3.xx.

You may as well update to 6.39 and use PRO and the CIPL flash for a permanent PRO install.

Edit - you got a steal for £8. I'll buy it off you for £10!

I misread- he "reset to default" meaning, I guess, that he had hacked it!

Where do I get the Permanent 6.39? I can only find temp versions (sorry, totally un-used to the PSP scene)...

P&P was £6 but I still think £15 was a bargain!

For the Official firmware update - Go here and grab the 6.39 firmware (the one in the UMD version column).

For the PRO firmware grab the 6.39 version from here
