I imagine that the best case scenario would be to get a "for parts" console in good aesthetic condition. Don't know how easy those are to come by, though.

I don't have any experience with non-OEM 3DS cases, but in the case of other portables these tend to be very cheap, kind of underwhelming in quality and looks, but ultimately an ok option. If you don't mind the manual labor of swapping the console casing, this could be a stopgap solution while you keep an eye out for an OEM part.

non OEM shells are a mixed bag imo. The inner top and bottom shell parts generally always fit, the back top sometimes can be wonky, and the bottom back is pretty much always a pain to snap in right. Thats within a shell replacement set. I once reshelled one with the inner and outer parts coming from different non OEM sets, and that just didnt work, they would not snap together at all. Though they have a good price point, used DSs, even broken ones are expensive as hell. I personally use a non oem shell I got on ebay which works alright.

Aliexpress will typically be cheaper than ebay for casings, but they always take forever to ship.
Had no issues ordering from AliExpress, items take around two weeks to get here, so not months or even a year. Considering the recent tariffs it'll be a lot difficult to import from China such as the US.
