ok, so i am looking for audio software that use the sound chips of retro consoles. i already have a bunch of stuff on teh gamboy (lsdj, nanolop, Music) and would like to know if anythign similar exists for NES, SNES, Master System, and Genesis/megadrive. also, atari or comodore64 too..thanks for all help given..

You can use Famitracker to make your own NSF files, which is the NES audio format. It will definitely sound authentic, as it creates files that could in theory be played back on an actual NES with the right hardware.

Nearly every pice of music editing software for retro consoles and computers will come in the form of a Tracker, the birth of proper tracking goes back to the original Soundtracker on Amiga, and there are thousands of different versions for various systems, here's just a few, google for download links...

GB + GBA - Carillion Editor & a host of others
NDS - Nitro Tracker
NES - A few options, & FamiTracker is just a clone of NerdTracker
C64 - loads of options for native SID editing, recommended - GoatTracker on Windows
Atari - again tons of options, depends on the atari model aswell, my recommendation - MaxYMiser
Amiga - too many to mention

NeoGeo - NeoTracker
Sam Coupe - ETracker
Amstrad CPC - Digitracker
