Hacking Moonshell 1.71 DLDI ?

I think the dldi patch is included with the moonshell setup program. You select it at the setup screen. Look for the version for your card.

the moonshell setup should create a working moonshell NDS file for R4. no need for any additional patching

Moon Shell 1.71 works on the R4, but not the soft reset. We have to wait for the R4 team to release a modified version of Moon Shell 1.71 to be able to soft reset by hitting START.

yeah, the setup.exe file is what picks all your settings via .ini, and it patches DLDI for you too.

The Second release of version 1.6 had soft reset. It was released as a stand alone a few days after the english R4 v1.06 released with a 1.6 that did not work. I downloaded v1.06 English a couple days ago and the moonshell included, not sure of the version, now works with soft reset. Is there any other benefit in 1.71?

I tried to enable soft-reset on MoonShell 1.71 by copying RESET.MSE from R4 modded 1.6, but then discovered the CRC32 value of the files are identical..

I don't want to wait for R4 Team to patch 171 again, dammit..

!= means 'does not equal'. Your R4 said 1.06 because that is the firmware version, not the moonshell version.
