lol, actually I posted once and edited twice soon after I posted for a bit more clarity. No idea why it came out as 3 separate posts.
I suppose someone can go and delete the first two if they want.

Still not sure why it came out like that but it's happened to me once before on this board.

pachura, good info.
I didn't know DPG was MPEG-1 and I never really played around with Moonshell enough. Turning off the second screen meaning really off (not just on but black), right?

Yes. You just tap bottom screen anywhere outside of buttons/sliders etc. and it fades out (the backlight too). It might be only in MoonShell 2.

As a side note, it always seemed TOTALLY IDIOTIC to me that there was no option to control the level of backlighting from inside NDS games. C'mon, if homebrew software can do it, why isn't it possible while playing ?

iirc, mpeg and mp3 only charge the encoder, so nintendo could pass the charge of licensing the codec onto the studio, and simply take up a distribution role via 3DSWare.

It would be incredibly lucrative for studios making 3d movies.

Wasn't it one of the first things Ninty said about the 3DS? that it will let you watch 3D movies? ._.

They demoed a couple of clips at E3 with such 3D movies like How to Train Your Dragon. The ability is definitely there, but whether they can gather support from the movie industry to apply it to the 3DS in a suitable format like how the PSP has UMD movies is the issue.
