I have 94020 too (not 84020). it happens even while entering friend code, or doing nothing for 5 seconds only.
maybe it's dependent of the WiFi configuration channel, like in the DS the last number reflected one of the 3 available WiFi choice.

good to know but 9 out of 10 i get 94020 not 84020 if that means anything and it drops me me form wifi no matter if i want to make match or just add some codes.
