Hacking Make work a really old R4

Hello I've found a possibly 10 years old R4 which is version 1.4.4, I have a nintendo dsi XL with firmware version 1.4.5E.
I've tried to install a firmware, 1.85b but it doesn't work.
This R4 will never ever work for my nintendo? What can I do?

Try using Wood as the kernel, it should support it.

Try using Wood as the kernel, it should support it.

If it's the stock DSi error screen appearing, changing the kernel won't fix it.
If you want to use your flashcard again, install Unlaunch, or else just put the ROMs on the console's SD card.

My dsi XL doesn't read the card at all.
I'll try installing wood, if that doesn't work I'll mod the ds
