To this day I'm unsure of the difference. I've used layeredfs for Sm4sh for a couple music swaps, and it works well, normal loading times and such. But recently I've seen a lot of posts about some software called SaltySD, which seems to serve the same purpose as the LayeredFS patch, just with easier setup and longer load times, and no need for NTR CFW.

So I must ask: what's the benefit to SaltySD? Is there some problem with LayeredFS I've yet to see/experience, or is it just not well known that the LayeredFS patch exists?

SaltySD lets you run modfied files in the compressed file without packing it since from what I belive there is no packer yet. At least I'm pretty sure this is the case

LayeredFS requires patched DT/LS files which have a size limit, SaltySD can load files from a directory on the SDMC and does not have a size limit.
