Hardware Laptop says SD card is write-protected when not locked?

I'm having an issue with my laptop's SD card reading.
It's definitely something wrong with the laptop as I've tried multiple SD cards and each time it says it says the same thing, that the SD cards is "write protected"
Furthermore, those cards don't have any issues in another laptop I've tested with.
I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before and/or would know how to fix it.
I'm hoping its a software issue rather than a hardware.
