is this real?
can i put a ps3 on the oven to fix it the yellow led of death?

he mentions it as a temporary fix, how much time +\- it can survive like that?

Long story short if it does work it's only maybe a few months.

The solder and joints don't magically just revert to factory application and the solder still has the ability to fracture again. If you decide to do it, remove every sticker and pad unless you want a horrible smell or fire in your oven.

That and don't plan on cooking in there for at least a day or two before you can ventilate it.

It's a last ditch effort though. Done wrong and you just have a really terrible smelling circuit board that will make you home smell like ass

That's not a reball, that's a reflow. Moreover, it's not performed correctly - he should've used liquid flux around the chip first to drop the solder's melting point and clean the solder points. A full reball is literally replacing the balls of solder under the chip by melting the old solder, removing the chip, applying new balls (preferably with a correct stencil) and soldering the chip back on. This procedure is usually performed on a reballing station, but this is an acceptable "temporary DIY fix".

And that's a reflow. Reball is removing the chip and reapplying a fresh sheet of solder using professional tools.

my dad actually put one motherboard fully submerged in the bathtub. then dried it for a whole day and put the computer back working.. i really couldn't beleive the thing was working...

Water will not break a motherboard easily if it is not running. Normally most electronics would work if you let them dry before turning them on again.
The worse part in that video is possible corrosion because of the strong cleaning spray and that he could have tore off some SMDs with the sponge, but anyways probably just by doing as he said "letting it dry off in the air" and p<uting it back into the computer it -could- actually work.

As long as the water is deionized...

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
