To my understanding it used to take about a minute to startup and shutdown. Is this still the case?

It pretty much loads instantly for me. There's only one release of it, and it works fine. The first boot it takes a while, but after it's instant.

Most of the time it's pretty much instant for me, with the odd time it takes a bit longer. For whatever reason it's much quicker for me than the SX bootloader was for glitching (after the initial boot which took ~5 minutes)

My reboot payload is set to Hekate and I use its USB transfer feature too so I virtually never have to shut down anyway, even when switching from CFW to OFW.

It's possible that timing training is screwed up or your modchip is not soldered properly.
Try to find a way how to reset training in modchip so it will try to adjust again.

For me it takes around 5 seconds.

If it's taking 5 minutes your solder joints are bad. It only takes me about 1 minute.

I think it probably does vary from Switch to Switch, there was a lot of variation in boot times with Xbox 360 RGH chips too.

Bear in mind the following issue if you have an Erista, this does happen with mine now and again but when it boots (which is most of the time) it's under 5 seconds Stuck on Solid Green LED · Issue #12 · Spacecraft-NX/firmware · GitHub

That's why this training at first boot exists. To determine best timing for each unit. Something that original FW wasn't doing.
